Why choose BioFlame Briquettes rather than the alternative?
BioFlame Briquettes contain about 19,800 BTU per kilogram when produced from kiln dried lumber by-products. Our briquettes contain, on average, 8% moisture by weight, where typical firewood, when seasoned in dry conditions for one year, contains about 20% moisture by weight. Since it takes energy to boil off the moisture, less moisture means more useable heat is produced. Briquettes burn cleaner - studies show that the smoke from briquettes contained 69% fewer particles, 88% less carbon monoxide, and are 50% less opaque than the smoke produced by normal firewood. This reduction in pollution is due to a more complete combustion occurring at the higher combustion temperature. Given equal weights of firewood and briquettes, the briquettes will produce substantially more heat when burned. A tonne of our briquettes occupies a space of 3ft x 3ft x 4ft (36 cu ft) which is the energy equivalent to one and a half full cords of firewood which occupies a volume measuring 4ft x 12ft x 4ft (192 cu ft).
