Briquettes are extremely dense, hence their long burn times and intense heat. Because of the high density, a higher temperature is required during ignition. 

Listed below, in order of preference, are different ways to accomplish quick and successful ignition:

1) Create a fire with kindling and briquettes together.

2) Stack or build a teepee of briquettes around a fire starter and ignite.

3) Stack two briquettes on each side of crumpled newspaper, lay two briquettes across the top, and light the paper. This method may require more attention.
